Refuting the Lost Cause with Primary Sources

Instructions: Select three core elements of the Lost Cause myth identified in the previous module. Using Alan T. Nolan, "The Anatomy of the Myth," as a starting point, locate primary sources that refute each element. Sources may include secession-era documents, speeches or writings by Confederate leaders or soldiers, records related to slavery, wartime laws or constitutions, and postwar commemorative materials. Refer to the full project instructions for a complete list of acceptable sources.

For each core element, research and select 3 - 4 primary sources that refute the core element. You may use the sources cited by Nolan, but you will need to find them on the web or library. Complete all required fields and briefly explain, in your own words, how the evidence shows the Lost Cause claim to be inaccurate. When finished, export your work as a PDF and submit it to Canvas.
