📋 Overview

Extra credit is offered in this course through a dedicated Extra Credit Assignment Group. This group is designed to provide a purely positive or neutral impact on your final grade.

If you choose not to participate in extra credit opportunities, your grade will be calculated based on the standard 100% of required coursework and will not be penalized.

🧮 How It Is Calculated

The extra credit group is assigned a weight of 5% on top of the regular 100% of course weights. This means the total possible weight in the course will be 105%.

Your final grade is calculated by taking your average in the extra credit group and multiplying it by its assigned weight.

Example: If you earn 100% in the extra credit group →
+5 percentage points added to your final grade

📊 Gradebook Transparency & Timing

To avoid "gradebook theatrics" and confusing fluctuations in your total percentage, please note the following:

1

0% Initial Weight

During the semester, the extra credit category is set to 0% weight. You can complete assignments and see your scores, but they won't affect your total until the end of the term.

2

Preventing "Drops"

This method prevents your grade from appearing to drop if you receive a low score on an extra credit assignment (e.g., a 5/10).

3

Final Update

Once all regular coursework is graded at semester's end, I will update the category weight to 5%, applying your earned bonus to your final total.

💡 Note on Total Percentages

Ambitious students who complete all required work and extra credit may see a final grade higher than 100% (e.g., 102.41%). Canvas will treat any total above 100% as an A+.
